Northwich & Bolton - 12th Feb 1968.

45104 at the coaling stage of Bolton shed on 12th February 1968. Read Eric Parker's comment about it below. The weather was terrible with sleet and fog, we had borrowed my grandfather's Triumph Herald and I remember a very difficult run back home to Worcestershire from Carnforth. The two recordings are:

A) Shunting and general activity at Northwich, lots of it and the last time I ever experienced it with steam. I haven't edited this, it is just as I recorded it - be warned this is a long recording.

B) By early 1968 there weren't many steam hauled passenger services, this is one of the exceptions. It was made by the side of Bolton MPD and is of 45310 on the 12.17pm Preston to Manchester Victoria, a through train from Scotland with steam taking over at Preston.

Eric Parker's diary entries for the day are below.
