Last Inbound Freight To Ross on Wye & Lydbrook Junction - 29th October 1965.

78006 shunts the yard at Ross on Wye on 29th October 1965.

As another of my dad's old pals (R.E. 'Ellis' James-Robertson) films the scene, 78006 shunts the yard at Ross on Wye before going down the Lydbrook Junction branch. It is Friday 29th October 1965, the date of the last inbound freight, passenger services had finished a year earlier. The weather was lovely and with the leaves on the trees changing colour it made for a very photogenic trip - see the Herefordshire video.

The recording was made on the way back going up the bank to Lea Tunnel from Mitcheldean Road. 78006 struggles hard and almost slips to a stop - perhaps it was leaves on the line! - a note made by my father though says the cause was a muddy cattle crossing. Although technically not the greatest I have always enjoyed this recording and regretted I was at school on the day.
