Addis Ababa.

Our family company HQ was at 12 High Street, Pershore, Worcestershire and opposite was the 'Green Door' cafe run by Mr & Mrs Smith. Their daughter Daphne (Law) spent 1968 & 1969 in Addis Ababa where she was a secretary at the British Embassy and where she also met her future husband (David), although her only memory of the railway is that 'heavy baggage' came by sea from the UK to Djibouti and then onwards by train to Addis Ababa.

These photographs at Addis Ababa railway station (metre-gauge) are believed to have been taken around 1967 or 1968 by David who was working for a British electrical engineering company on the new Hilton Hotel in Ethiopia's capital (amongst other projects). The photos were given to my father decades ago and are still in a slide container addressed to Daphne at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Rather than these photographs just sit on a shelf for many more years and probably end up 'lost', instead, I contacted Daphne and David who agreed that they should be made available via my website but credited to them..

If anybody can supply technical details regarding the content of these photos please send it via the 'Contact Us' link to the left and I will add it to the website.
