The March 1968 'Roy Jenkins' Budget.
Chancellor of The Exchequer Roy Jenkins brought tape recorders within the scope of Purchase Tax at 33.3%, previously they escaped the tax. As it applied to the manufacturer's price it generally meant retail prices increased by about 25%. It did not apply however to professional/industrial machines like the Nagra. The price lists below are taken from the June 1968 issue of Tape Recorder magazine.
